Whangarei's busy waterfront restaurant has a vacancy for a Sous Chef. Diners come for fresh flavours and top-quality local produce in a relaxed setting, and the kitchen now wants a capable number two beside the Executive Chef. You would guide the crew, keep standards steady and keep things ticking over backstage, even when the pace is relentless.
Employment is permanent or fixed-term, with at least 30 hours a week on offer. People already holding New Zealand work eligibility are preferred, though sponsorship may be considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
- Step in for the Executive Chef during any absence, and brief each chef on what the day demands
- Order and hold stock in suitable amounts and condition
- Maintain rosters, leave planners and attendance records
- Enforce hygiene rules, and flag maintenance faults then chase them until they are fixed
- Link the dining room and the kitchen with clear, steady communication
- Inspect every plate before it leaves the pass: quality, quantity, presentation and temperature
- Deliver regular training on the job, and treat every team member fairly and courteously
Requirements & Eligibility
- Plenty of time in a busy, quality-minded kitchen, and either ready to move up to Sous Chef or working as one already
- Leadership strength and a knack for motivating a team
- Real enthusiasm for good food, served consistently
- Well organised, with excellent communication
- Stays calm when service gets hectic, with a positive outlook, a solid work ethic and a sense of humour
