Key Responsibilities
- Read plans and technical specifications before any cutting begins
- Take exact measurements and calculate the stock required
- Shape, cut, finish and polish stone as each project requires, getting pieces ready to install
- Install splashbacks, benchtops and other architectural stone features
- Place stone for fireplaces, barbecues and bespoke applications
- Check completed pieces for alignment, size, finish and general quality
- Work with other trades and installers on what each project needs
- Run and care for specialist stone machinery and hand tools
- Deal with measuring, fabrication or installation snags as they arise, working to workplace health and safety procedures throughout
Requirements & Eligibility
- Formal trade training or a recognised stonemasonry qualification, as well as a stonemasonry trade certificate
- Minimum 3–5 years in relevant professional practice
- Hands-on stone fabrication and installation background
- Confident reading technical drawings and specifications
- Skilled in using professional stone cutting, shaping and finishing equipment
- Precise in measuring and finishing
- Practical problem-solving in fabrication and installation
- Works independently and as a team member
- Physically able to handle and install stone; committed to safe work practices and professional workmanship; able to supply evidence of qualifications and relevant employment experience
