Product Engineer

Visa sponsorship

Engineering · Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · $27/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored

Auckland has a Product Engineer opening on the new product introduction (NPI) side of electronics manufacturing, which means turning a fresh design into a product that can be built dependably in volume. You would work with colleagues across design, quality, purchasing and the production floor.

It is a full-time post. International candidates who are eligible can be offered employer sponsorship. Expect a blend of process development, supporting test systems, digging into root causes and the occasional overseas trip.

Your CV should highlight the launches you have been part of, the test equipment you have looked after and any process-improvement wins. An AI-assisted CV builder can help you lay that out plainly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take products from prototype stage to volume manufacture, working closely with engineering, quality, purchasing and production teams
  • Develop and prove the build processes for electronic and mechanical products, and keep refining them
  • Keep line test systems, fixtures and equipment supported
  • When manufacturing, test or quality problems appear, find the cause with structured root cause analysis and fix it with corrective and preventive actions that raise reliability and output
  • Use production data to find where efficiency, quality and cost can improve, and back lean manufacturing and continuous improvement projects
  • Prepare and update engineering documents: build procedures, test plans and engineering change records
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing partners on readiness and improvement, and be the technical presence on the floor during production and sustaining engineering, travelling internationally on occasion

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering, or in a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 5 years behind you in electronics and mechanical manufacturing environments
  • Understanding of new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing readiness
  • A practical background building, supporting or troubleshooting manufacturing test fixtures and production equipment
  • Working knowledge of electronics manufacturing, assembly, quality systems and inventory management
  • The skill to analyse manufacturing processes and deliver gains in productivity and quality
  • PCB assembly manufacturing and electronic production testing experience is highly desirable
  • Knowing engineering documentation or product lifecycle management systems is advantageous
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • A strong communicator who works effectively across cross-functional teams, has professional English and is willing to travel internationally on an occasional basis
