Mining Engineer (Medium Term Planning)

Visa sponsorship

Engineering · Brisbane, QLD, Australia · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Employer sponsored

Brisbane, or the mine itself, could be your base as a Mining Engineer handling medium term planning for a large underground zinc-lead-silver operation in Queensland. The job is permanent. With a long mine life, a complex sequence and many operating fronts, development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, infrastructure, services and production readiness all pull on one another, and the plan has to balance them.

Your remit is to build, maintain and keep sharpening the mine plans and schedules that deliver production and development targets. You can work from Brisbane, fly in and out (FIFO) or live at the mine. Visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates.

Planning teams read CVs for the software and methods you know, so name your mine planning tools, your underground hard rock experience and the plans you have scheduled. Lay out your mining engineer CV so the planning work stands out.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain and continually improve the plans and schedules that deliver production and development targets.
  • Convert Life-of-Mine and long-term planning strategy into medium-term sequences that work in practice.
  • Optimise stope extraction, development timing, ventilation availability and infrastructure readiness through those sequences.
  • Ensure your medium-term sequences convert easily into short term plans.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related subject
  • Proven underground hard rock mining experience, preferably including mine planning, scheduling or technical services roles.
  • Experience with mine planning and design software (e.g. Deswik, Surpac or equivalent), used for development planning, stope sequencing and schedule analysis.
  • Strong understanding of underground mining methods, development requirements and production sequencing, and skill in merging geological, geotechnical, ventilation and operational constraints into workable mine plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for assessing planning risks, identifying constraints and developing practical solutions.
