Whanganui needs support workers to walk alongside people with complex behavioural and medical needs. The work centres on helping people through overwhelming emotions and health challenges, keeping everyone safe and encouraging positive behaviour, and day by day building people's independence and daily living skills.
You do not need earlier experience in the health and disability sector; a real wish to build a career as a Support Worker and a positive attitude count for most. The employer is an accredited AEWV employer, so it can sponsor the Accredited Employer Work Visa for overseas hires.

Key Responsibilities
- Back people with complex behavioural and medical needs as they work through overwhelming emotions and health-related difficulties.
- Keep the people you support safe and encourage positive behaviour.
- Help people become more independent and learn skills for daily living.
- Pitch in with whatever each person needs, depending on their ability, which may include transportation, employment, finances, meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, showering and medication administration.
- Cover daytime, evening, overnight and weekend shifts.
- Handle risk well.
- Stay effective when situations get challenging.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Managing challenging behaviours before is preferred, along with the skill to work with behaviours that can challenge.
- Be available for flexible shifts, including weekends and wakeover shifts.
- You are at ease and proficient using computers and tablets every day.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Fit enough to give the necessary physical support.
- Possession of a Full NZ driver's license.
